CARL SARGEANT AM HIGHLIGHTS ADVICE FOR DISABLED HOLIDAYMAKERS
Carl Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, is highlighting new advice issued by the charity Tourism for All which aims to help people with disabilities plan their summer holiday. This advice follows a survey by Leonard Cheshire Disability which found that 61 per cent of disabled travellers had experienced problems boarding flights and 11 per cent had been forced to cancel or delay a flight because of accessibility problems.Mr Sargeant said: “The most important advice is that disabled travellers should make sure that the resort that they are going to caters for their condition. Disabled holidaymakers should let their travel agents know that certain facilities are essential requirements, not merely ‘requests.’“Holidaymakers should also pack extra medication in order to cover any unforeseen events, such as delays or strikes. “Wheelchairs and other equipment may also need to be specially considered in insurance policies.”
