Support For WWF Campaign

CARL SARGEANT HELPS SOLVE CLIMATE CRIME
Carl Sargeant, Welsh Assembly Member for Alyn & Deeside played detective when WWF Cymru staged a Climate Crime Scene at the National Assembly in Cardiff Bay.
2009 is the most important year ever for our climate with UN negotiations concluding in Copenhagen next month.
To raise awareness of this critical time for action on climate change in the run-up to Copenhagen, WWF Cymru staged a Climate Crime Scene at the Senedd on November 17.
WWF invited members of the Welsh Assembly government and visitors and staff to the Senedd to view the crime scene and to sign up to our petition for a strong global deal to be agreed in Copenhagen in December to help secure a safe future for the planet. Carl Sargeant represented Alyn & Deeside by signing up to the campaign this week.
Carl Sargeant AM speaking at the event:
“WWF Cymru has demonstrated what the future holds unless climate change is tackled now. Climate change left unchecked will have devastating impacts for people and wildlife across the planet. 2009 is the most important year for Climate Change – we simply must secure a strong deal between nations in Copenhagen in December to seriously tackle this problem. I would urge people to sign up to WWF’s campaign to show their support and help safeguard our planet.”

AM's Praise For Fire Service

Carl Sargeant AM Supports Local Fire and Rescue Services
Carl Sargeant Welsh Assembly Member for Alyn & Deeside joined forces with North Wales Fire and Rescue Service to raise awareness of the Fire Service’s work during National Road Safety Week (23-29 November).Statistics show that fire-fighters today rescue more people from road traffic collisions than from fires and the number of fatalities and people seriously injured or killed on the roads of Wales is increasing every year. Carl Sargeant AM wants to highlight the rescue capabilities of North Wales Fire and Rescue Services at scenes of road traffic collisions and to help raise the profile of this important area of their work.Fire-fighters are highly trained and hugely experienced in the safe extrication of casualties at serious collisions involving a whole range of vehicles and countless lives have been saved on the roads, thanks to their quick response and technical proficiency. We therefore believe this rescue work should be highlighted and showcased. As part of Road Safety Week, representatives from the Fire and Rescue Services in Wales were at the Welsh Assembly’s Senedd building in Cardiff Bay (Wednesday 25 November) raising awareness of their work in relation to road traffic collisions. Carl Sargeant AM said
“Fire-fighters are in the business of saving lives, and whilst that primarily involves rescuing people from fires and educating about fire safety, fire and rescue services across the UK are also attending an increasing number of road traffic collisions this is of concern and I want to pay tribute to the work of our local Fire Service.”
