CARL SARGEANT URGES RESIDENTS TO SUPPORT LEISURE CENTRE CAMPAIGN
Carl Sargeant Assembly Member for Alyn & Deeside has lent his support to a growing campaign against the proposed closure of Connah’s Quay, Hope and Saltney Sports Centre’s.
Carl Sargeant AM joined with local Connah’s Quay Labour Councillors Aaron Shotton and Peter Macfarlane to attend Connah’s Quay Sports Centre to meet with organisers of a popular local youth football team, Connah’s Quay Tigers, where they agreed to form a petition against the proposals.
Carl Sargeant AM for Alyn & Deeside said,
“Connah’s Quay Tigers coach over 200 local chidren, local sports facilities are critical to their survival. The proposal to close the three sports centres is a disgrace and I would urge local residents to lobby the Council’s Executive Committee to make them reconsider.”
Connah’s Quay Labour Councillor Aaron Shotton said,
“ Despite being well attended Sports Centre’s the Independent Councillors running the Council clearly don’t understand the importance they provide to the local community, this has nothing to do with the cuts at national level, it is due to complete financial mismanagement over the last two years, I would urge residents to sign the petition and fight the closure plans.”
Carl Sargeant AM added,
“Thousands of local people rely on the sports centres in Saltney, Hope and Connah’s Quay therefore the value to the local communities has to be recognised by the County Council.”
